What should a tourist not do in Pattaya? | Munipalli Akshay Paul |

I am in Pattaya right now and have been staying here for the last three days and the following are the deductions from what I have heard from cab drivers, YouTube vlogs and seen from own experience.

If you don't want to land in any trouble, stay away from the massage parlours. They will lure you into something else and take you upstairs or into a separate room and they will claim that you have misbehaved with the masseuse and will call the police on you. They will blackmail you basically and you will end up parting ways with at least a couple of thousands of bahts.

Similarly, stay away from any over-friendly freelancer, especially at the Pattaya Walking Street. They will try to touch you, hug you but they are not being friendly. They are finding ways to get inside your pockets and steal your wallet or snatch a chain or a ring.

If you are on a very tight budget trip, avoid taking the local tuk-tuks because they charge an exorbitant price to the tourists. Either get a shared taxi or order an app-based cab via Grab or Bolt. It's cheaper, safer and you don't have to worry about the directions either.

If you are in Pattaya, you must be visiting Koh Larn Islands. Do not fall into the trap of the local speedboats. They will charge you 150–300 baht for a trip from Pattaya to Koh Larn Island. There is a government ferry that takes only 30 bahts! You need to wait a little since it leaves every one hour but its worth saving money!

Tourist places are full of scams. These are only some of the scams that I am aware of and the last three points I mentioned happened to me as well. But since I was aware of such things, I was cautious enough not to fall into their trap. While in Pattaya, save your dignity and you will have a memorable trip. Otherwise, it will become memorable in the wrong way.
