Bad disgusting things, eventually. For most people, they can actually get away with no major problems for a decent while, but continued forever and the end of the story is no teeth or maybe some teeth left and possibly cancer. See, brushing is like sweeping your house – gets rid of the obvious surface crud. A Waterpik is like a pressure washer, blasting away the dirt that's a little more stubborn and hidden. Mouthwash is more like spraying air freshener – it masks the smell, but doesn't do much about the underlying mess. The big baddie in your mouth is plaque, a sticky film packed with bacteria. Brushing removes that crap from the surfaces of your teeth. A Waterpik can reach between teeth and along the gum line where brushing might miss. But neither of them truly eliminates ALL the plaque, especially the stuff that's hardened into tartar. That takes a dentist's tools.
