High blood pressure, or hypertension, forces the tiny blood vessels in your kidneys to work harder. Over time, this constant pressure weakens these vessels, making it harder for the kidneys to filter waste and toxins efficiently. This strain can eventually lead to kidney failure if left unchecked. I had a patient in her early 30s with autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD), where hypertension was one of her first signs of trouble. Even before her kidney function declined, her blood pressure climbed, highlighting how intimately connected the kidneys and cardiovascular system are. With medication, dietary changes, and regular monitoring, we managed her condition, but it was a reminder of how crucial early intervention is.
