How do I maximize storage space with modular wardrobes? | Munipalli akshay paul |
Modular wardrobes are designed to stretch every bit of available space, making every square inch count! If you’re working on eking out storage space in your compact home, then a modular wardrobe is the way to go.
Here are some tips that will help you maximise storage and organise your belongings beautifully!
- Take your wardrobe unit all the way to the ceiling, either by using floor-to-ceiling Armadio wardrobes from HomeLane, or by adding a loft for seasonal items and stuff that need not be accessed often.
- Determine how frequently you use each item. This will help you prioritise storage solutions. Use the top shelves for less frequently used items, while the shelves at eye level can be used for daily wear.
- Within the hanging section, expand the vertical space by adding a second hanger rod below the first. This will help you double up on the hanging space, and you can use the second rod for shorter items like folded sarees and trousers.
- A pull-down hanger rod will help you to hang things above your reach, lifting them up just as easily.
- Consider your usage. Do you prefer to hang up your clothes, or are you someone who usually folds everything in piles? Plan a mix of storage options that includes hanging sections, shelves for folded clothes, and drawers for smaller items.
- Adjustable shelves allow more flexibility, especially in a wardrobe for a growing child.
- If you need space for valuables, a safe that is bolted into the floor of the wardrobe is a good idea. You can also think of having hidden drawers or lockable drawers that only you can access.
- Drawer organisers help to keep things tidy within your drawers, making it easy to find stored items. Even within the shelf, make use of baskets and bins to categorise items and keep your wardrobe organised. Label them for easy identification.
- Use hanging organisers for ties, belts, or scarves to maximise hanging space.
- Think of using the Marie Kondo method to keep clutter at bay, holding on to things that have special meaning for you, and letting go of the things that don’t. Her time tested and proven instructions will help you transform chaos into order (and keep things that way)!
- Shoe drawers must have vents to allow the shoes to breathe. It’s also hygienic to have them away from the main storage, with separate access from the outside of the wardrobe.
- If your bedroom is small and looks dark, adding mirrored shutters will create a sense of space and will bounce the light around as well.
- Using light coloured laminate on the inside of the wardrobe will help you to view the stored items more easily. In the same way, a strip light that turns on when the wardrobe is opened is also useful to have.
- Add hooks or a slender rod to the inside of the wardrobe shutter, and use this space to hang up scarves, belts and necklaces. A pegboard that’s fitted on the inside of another shutter can be used to pin up earrings.
- Don't overlook the potential of corner spaces! If you have an unused corner in your bedroom, a corner wardrobe can put this space to good use. Corner hanging rods can ensure that every inch of space is put to good use and is easy to access.
