Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu had a narrow escape when a train went past him as he was walking on the Budameru railway bridge in Vijayawada while taking stock of the flood situation. The bridge has no space for pedestrians and when the train approached, the security officials saved Naidu, TOI reported. A video of the incident surfaced online.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu had a narrow escape on Thursday evening. When the CM was walking on the Budameru railway bridge in Vijayawada to take stock of the flood situation, a train passed behind him.
The video of this incident is also going viral on social media, in which it can be seen that a small mistake could have led to a big accident.
While inspecting the flood situation, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu said that army teams were being called in to fill the cracks in the embankments of the Budameru river. Addressing a press conference at the NTR District Magistrate office in Vijayawada on Thursday, Chandrababu said that Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has been informed about the disaster. Chauhan was also present with him during the press conference.
Earlier, Shivraj Singh Chouhan conducted an aerial survey of flood affected areas in Vijayawada. Chandrababu said, “The army is also arriving to fill the cracks in the embankments. We are making every possible effort.”
According to the Chief Minister, a technical team has reached Vijayawada to analyze the situation after the severe rains and floods. He said that due to floods many houses have been destroyed and vehicles, household appliances and many other things have also been damaged.
The CM also informed that there is a need to increase the capacity of Prakasam barrage so that it can handle 15 lakh cusecs of water. At present its capacity is only 11.9 lakh cusecs of water. At the same time, Union Minister Shivraj Singh said that the situation in the flood affected areas is bad and he has never seen such a situation before. He said that 400 mm rainfall at one go is a big disaster but he appreciated the efforts being made by the Chief Minister and the government machinery.
Shivraj Singh also praised the move to use drones to deliver food to the affected areas and said troops were expected to arrive soon to fill the cracks in the embankments of Budameru. Chauhan alleged that illegal mining took place near Budameru during the tenure of the previous YSRCP government and claimed that it played a major role in the disaster. He also said that the central government will provide all necessary assistance to the southern state.Earlier, Shivraj Singh had conducted an aerial survey of the flood affected areas in and around Vijayawada. During this, he surveyed Jakkampudi Milk Factory, Kandriga, Ajit Singh Nagar, Ambapuram and other flood affected areas. Andhra Pradesh Information and Technology Minister Nara Lokesh was also with him in the helicopter. The Union Minister also took stock of the Prakasam Barrage where three big boats had recently collided with the barrage, damaging the concrete beam.
