Yes, my former student of computer engineering, whom I taught a course in data mining in Fall 2013. He was quiet, aloof, avoided eye contact, not particularly the hard working type. He was visibly religious, but definitely showed no sign of any violent tendencies.

I was told by his classmates that he went to Syria sometime in early 2014, just one semester short of graduating.

About 5 months ago, I saw him in one of the Isis "promotional" videos on Facebook (though I could only bear to watch the first 30 seconds which contained no violence); in it he appeared along a line of about 20 other Isis men, all holding knives, standing behind knealing Syrian pilot hostages dressed in blue overalls.

Shocked doesn't begin to describe my reaction.
